It’s been lovely to have a bit of time at home recently, and to have time to catch up on errands. I’ve enjoyed a couple of early morning walks before the heat set in, and met this little squirrel yesterday who was curious about me! 🐿️ ~ Marie
Church last night was the beginning of a missions conference, where Marie and I had the privilege of sharing our testimonies and the ministry of Go Deaf Missions. We met Mr. Chapman, missionary to Australia, who preached a sobering and convicting message calling the Christian to his duty as God's child to give the Gospel to those who have never heard, because Romans 1:20 says all are without excuse. Afterwards we met the four oldest children of the John Shrader family, who have ministered in Zambia, West Africa, for about 13 years. Now, some of these are moving back to the United States for Bible college and job training. When I told them how good it is to see some young people who love the Lord and want to serve Him, they nodded and said the feeling was mutual. Missions conference is not only a challenge to church-goers to be faithful in giving to missions, and to pray whether God wants them to go out as a missionary, it is also a time of refreshing for the missionaries who come. Meeting others in the same work encourages us that we are not alone. The Bible records a time Elijah felt he was the lone servant of God and his mission hopeless, but God told him he was not alone. I thank the Lord for missions conferences. Speaking to others who are doing the same work spurs me on like nothing else can do. ~ Anna
Three churches in a row that are growing! 🙏The first two churches had struggled for years and had come very close to closing their doors. But they kept going. Eventually, each church found a new pastor—and now both churches are growing again!Tonight’s church was a small church plant when we first visited. Since then, they have outgrown their facilities several times and continued expanding. Tonight I found out that they have now purchased the entire building complex!It is such an encouragement to see churches that refused to quit now experiencing growth. God is faithful! What a joy to see what He is doing in these churches. 🙏Let that be a reminder to be faithful when things are down. God will bless those who endure.
Well, it has been quite an amazing day! Mine started at 6:00 with Amanda wide awake and ready to talk. And talk, she did! All day long! I just convinced her to lie down to rest but she was stuck on fast forward all day! She read another book; she took her own shower; she wrote more sentences; she tried to write out times tables; she went to the store and pushed the cart; she loaded, unloaded, loaded, unloaded, loaded, and carried the groceries into the house; she helped fold three loads of laundry; she washed a sink of dishes; she ate everything she could get her hands on; and never stopped talking all the while. She just said anything and everything she could think of, like asking, "How many squares of toilet paper should I use?" She wore me out!I don't know how this could even happen because she was up almost all night and then the Energizer Bunny all day. I am so glad God gave her this! How beautiful to see God unfolding a path for her! Now we need to pray that I can recover!~Tricia

For a while now, we have been encountering someone regularly who has been really negative, and even downright hateful. We've been praying for this person, that God would get ahold of their heart and help us to love them despite any nastiness. This can be really hard at times, and when it feels like a constant pummeling, it can really wear on you. Reasoning, kindness, Truth, etc. just wouldn't change anything, unfortunately. One day, Jeremy was sitting, listening and praying, and had the idea that instead of listening to his audio Bible through his hearing aids that day, he would just turn it on out loud for everyone to hear. Not obnoxiously, but just to have the Word of God fill the space and maybe drown out some of the negativity. He was pleasantly surprised that the difficult individual didn't say another word the entire afternoon - negative or otherwise. The past couple of days, Jeremy has continued this practice and found that the person often chooses to make himself scarce now. Sometimes, there is nothing we can say to change another person. We can't choose for someone to be different or better or to seek after the Lord - they must choose these things for themselves - but the Word of God is powerful and sometimes, when we just let It speak for Itself, the Holy Spirit takes care of the problem for us!Please pray with us that God will soften this person's heart and that He will use us - specifically Jeremy - to plant seeds of faith so that this person can know the fullness and joy that comes from a life in Christ. ♡ ~ Shamberly
This girl has been smiling and laughing all day! This is so amazing to see! A minute ago she asked if I remember Jesse Kragiel who is blind. I said I do and she said she misses him. I messaged Jesse to tell him since she only asks about her dad and David. Jessee texted back that he misses her too and hopes to see her in church soon. She took my phone from me and typed back, ”I can church. ”She has not really used a phone since we were in Australia, and she has not written any sentences. Now she is lying in the bed next to mine spelling words to me. I rejoice to see God give her this huge step forward!
I’m thankful for fellow missionaries who have taken the time to write down their stories. I’m currently reading That’s My Goat by Joe Consford. In it, he shares experiences he and his family have had on the field - funny, terrifying, uplifting, encouraging - a complete spectrum!Also thankful for beautiful sunsets we see as we travel. Anna and I are currently at home and have been working on finishing some projects related to the camp we recently had. We didn’t quite get them finished before camp, but it is worthwhile completing them before passing the props on to a church group to use in the future. We have a busy month of travel planned for September! Please pray for us as we continue to serve Him.~ Marie

Thank the Lord, it has been a pretty good day for Amanda. I am really glad to see it. Hopefully this means we are on an upward swing. I just discovered I forgot to give her all the liquid supplements this morning. I am not too thrilled about that one. I made them up but never handed them to her. The best laid plans.... ~Tricia
This week I concluded teaching a children's sign language class for some ambitious young people. We had eight weeks of study together, and I am proud of how much they learned. One parent shared that his daughter was able to communicate with a deaf relative at their get-together this summer because of our class. Every time a young person says they want to learn sign language, I see the potential of a witness for the Lord who will reach people that I will never meet, and that makes all the work worthwhile. ~ Anna
There have been some staff changes at Amanda's doctor's office and her doctor is passing work on to some of the new clinicians. As a result, some changes have been made to Amanda's diet and supplement regiment. We think a combination of those changes at too quick of an approach set her back a few places. In just these three days of appointments, she is already showing some improvement. We are abandoning the diet changes and over the next month reintroducing some paused supplements and gradually introducing some new ones. We didn't find any infection, but we did find a pretty clogged ear. So maybe the eustachian tubes are failing to drain as they should. It was good to see her start smiling and laughing at the doctor's office today. She is such a joy to everyone when she smiles. In walking with her through this terrible illness, I have learned so much about me and so much about the Lord. Certainly, every flaw, and every weakness in my life has been exposed in the raw. I have failed in far too many ways. This journey has been incredibly hard. I believe I love the Lord with all my heart, but some days I have felt sheer panic; some days I have been cranky and short; and some days I have been completely overwhelmed and failed in every way. This week, I heard an excerpt from a message at Calvary Baptist Church in Middleburg, Florida. I don't know if it was new or old or who the preacher was but with all his heart he was preaching about the secret place of the Most High. He said in a booming voice bigger than the man himself, "The veil has been torn, so get in there! No one falls into sin when they are dwelling in the secret place!” I am so glad that despite my falling short, God still extends an open invitation to his secret place. In this journey with Amanda, I have been in that place some times, and God has been so close on some very scary nights. I just need to figure out how to dwell there. In all the demands of taking care of Amanda, our family, our home, our ministry, and our team, I feel trapped in the world of Martha but longing for the life of Mary.My prayer is this: That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his suffering, being made conformable to his death, even the death of the cross.~Tricia

I love flowers! These late summer flowers just brought me a little spark of joy when we were in Jamestown, Tennessee, last weekend. ~Tricia
Just a quick prayer request. Amanda seems to have something going on with her lymph system, and we are trying with her doctor to figure out if there is some sort of infection somewhere. Unfortunately, Amanda is seldom able to express if she is not feeling well or in pain. She is sick enough that I see it in her face. She was doing so well not long ago. But she could sure use some prayers right now. There are many other burdens at this time and we are asking the Lord for an extra measure of grace, mercy, and wisdom. He doeth all things well.~Tricia
What can I say? This week I became aware of two deaf people within driving distance from my house, a teenager and an adult man, both with no language and no communication skills. Every study on language development says a person who doesn't learn language before the age of seven will never acquire it. I personally know two people who proved them wrong. Can these two learn enough language to understand the Gospel? Will they? Not without a dedicated teacher, and even with one, it's unlikely. But would you pray with me for these two deaf? ~ Anna
It has been awhile since I have posted an update on Amanda, partly because we have been very busy travelling and also preparing for camp. We are now in a missions conference in Alabama. We have our afternoon free, and she is resting here in the bed beside me. She has difficulty regulating body temperature, especially in her legs and sometimes it helps if I just put my feet next to hers and share my warmth. I forgot to pack her electric blanket.Two months ago, we were seeing some good improvements but I think some overzealous changes to her diet and supplement set her back a little and she has not bounced back from it. It is disappointing when she had had several bright and happy days. The most concerning aspect we are dealing with on a daily basis is slow digestion and the lack of being regular. It causes toxins to back up in her system and keeps her from communicating well. I am really praying this will resolve. Incontinence is what makes travel most difficult.Over all, I have not witnessed any more seizures for quite awhile, although, it is possible she still has mild ones in her sleep. Speaking of sleep, her cold feet warmed up, and she is now snoring beside me. I sure love this girl and want so much to see her all the way better. As long as she is asleep, I think I will squeeze in a little nap as well. Thank you for your faithful prayers. -Tricia
This week has been a whirlwind, full of God's grace. We spent most of the week in a pediatric ICU unit with precious family whose young daughter had some medical emergencies and multiple major health issues pop up - one right after another. As we were there to pray with, support, and minister to them, God also presented daily opportunities to talk about Jesus and share all the ways God was working "all things together for good" in the lives of this family and sweet little girl with the nurses and medical team taking care of her, and to pray for each of them in the work that they do. During the most recent surgery this sweet girl went through (3 in the last week, plus countless tests and procedures,) there was a woman in the surgical waiting room. She was alone and only spoke Spanish. The doctors caring for her daughter were having a hard time communicating with her. They eventually left, and the woman sat in a corner alone, quietly crying, very obviously distraught. I knew very basic Spanish and was able to start a conversation with her and pray with her and for her little girl. She hugged me and sobbed in my arms, crying "gracias" - thank you. I cannot say enough how amazing it is that God directs our paths and our steps and puts us in the places we need to be in order to be His hands and feet. It wasn't a coincidence that we were in the waiting room at the same time as this woman - it was a God Detail. He allowed us to be present to offer this woman His comfort, to remind her that she and her daughter are loved and cared for and in His hands. God truly cares for all of us in the good times and the hard times, He is there and He always shows up for us.Jeremy was able to spend some time talking and praying with another family whose child has a severe injury. An Amish family whose son had been cutting grass when a rock flew up and hit his eye, cutting it and causing damage. I don't know the full severity, but they were there nearly the entire week that we were. We are so thankful for the opportunities God puts before us. In the past, I often let my fears and insecurities scare me me into just silently praying for someone, wishing them well in my head, but too intimidated to actually speak up or approach them. I am grateful for how God grows and matures us as He calls us to step up and out on faith in Him, to love on and encourage those around us. When He calls us to do something, to show up, to help, to work, to serve, to love, to pray, there is often so much more than just the task at hand - there is a ripple effect and even more opportunities along the path of obedience that He allows and blesses us to be able to take part in. He always shows up for His people. ♡♡♡ Please pray with us for the Spanish family, Mamacita & Chica, the Amish family, and for the M family (the ones we were specifically there to support) as they all continue to walk through these difficult seasons, that God would bring them healing, comfort, and peace, and that they would see Him working in each of their situations, and that they would recognize His love through these hard times.~ Shamberly
We were very busy in the lead up to our camp this week, and we are so grateful to all those who helped us out. What a blessing it was to see it all come together on the stage! It was a wonderful camp, with 5 people praying for salvation, and several children stepping forward to share their desire to serve in ministry in the future. All month the Go Deaf Missions team has been working diligently on a stage set for Deaf Camp. It took more work and time than we thought it would but we got it done and had a fantastic week of camp. Five people accepted Christ as Savior! Praise the Lord. Lowe's and Home Depot donated many of the materials used to build the set. We are so thankful for their willingness to help.Our theme verse was Romans 1:16, " For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God ...."
As the rest of the Go Deaf team is gearing up for camp and all the things they've been working so diligently on, Jeremy, our kids, and I are in the middle of preparing to move houses once again, and are excited to set up a home base to come back to as we are on deputation and hopefully some mission trips along the way. Today, we are on the road, however, as we learned about an urgent need a few hours away and the Lord put it on our hearts to go. The details of that need are not ours to share, but we do ask for prayers over the situation and that the Lord will use us as His hands and feet in any way He can. ♡~ Shamberly
Please keep praying for the DSL camp and our preparations! God has been so good in providing many things we have needed, and we’re getting a lot done, but there’s not a lot of time left. Pray we will be wise in decisions we make as we prioritise what we need to do in the next couple of days!~ Marie
Remember not to get so busy that you forget to spend time with God. Take a few minutes and praise Him, talk to Him; He loves you. I encourage you to read Psalm 118. It's a good reminder for us to call upon the Lord.Remember Psalm 118:24, This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.~~~~This past week we started deputation. I ask you all to pray for us that God will continue to open doors for us to share the ministry, share the Gospel, and build partnerships with churches and individuals. We are excited to start this new chapter of our lives and excited to watch as God is moving and growing us. Eating, sleeping, and breathing deaf camp at this point. Dreams have been sparse, as I go to bed dead tired, but at least one person has had Super Mario characters coming after them in their dreams. Amanda has been helping me paint barrels and boxes for the decorations today. She's having a pretty good day. We're having fun.~ Anna

Update - Astroturf secured - Does anyone have a bunch of astro turf I can borrow or have to use for deaf camp in Silver Springs by July 18? I need at least 300 square feet and would prefer 600. It can be in strips or pieces. It will be indoor use only for the stage, altar and auditorium. Some deaf person might get saved in your astro turf! -Tricia
What a blessing to celebrate 250 years of God given freedom in America! I am so thankful to live in a country where the Gospel was freely shared to me and I could openly learn God's Word and share it with others. We saw a spectacular fireworks display on the St. John's riverfront tonight and I just couldn't hold back a few tears thinking of all that God has given us. Happy Birthday America! -Tricia
Today, Jeremy, our oldest two kids, and I spent the day helping at a Freedom Fest with friends. Together, we all handed out free cold waters, popsicles, and balloon animals, but most importantly, we were able to hand out Gospel tracts, Gospel of John books, and Bibles.Today was hot - it reached 109* where we are and stayed there for much of the afternoon, but how amazing is it to live in a place where we have the freedom to share the Gospel so openly! I don't have the exact count, but I believe we gave out approximately 4 dozen Bibles and at least a couple hundred Gospel tracts, meaning the Word of God was put into the hands of many people today. ♡ We pray He will be able to use these to reach the hearts of every person who received one! The heat wore us out by the end of the day, but if even one soul is reached for Christ, it is all worth it!~ Shamberly

Last week, the Go Deaf team attended the 45th Annual Deaf Baptist Fellowship of America (DBFA). Nearly 200 people gathered together, including pastors, evangelists, missionaries, Christian workers, interpreters, and faithful laypeople who share a burden for reaching Deaf people with the Gospel.This conference holds a special place in my heart. I first attended the 4th Annual DBFA in 1984, and I have been able to attend many of these fellowships over the years. Each one has encouraged, challenged, and strengthened me in my walk with the Lord and in my ministry to the Deaf.It is a blessing to see God continue to work through this fellowship after so many years. Please pray that God will raise up more pastors, missionaries, evangelists, interpreters, and Christian workers with a heart to reach Deaf people around the world.~John
Last week I had the opportunity to attend the Deaf Baptist Fellowship of America (DBFA) for the first time. It was especially meaningful to me because of the rich history and heritage behind this conference. Many faithful servants of God who dedicated their lives to Deaf ministry have attended through the years, including Bro. Vernon Miller, who at the time was building Efata Ministries in Peru, the very ministry God used to reach my dad with the Gospel.It was a joy to reconnect with familiar faces and meet many new people. One of my favorite parts of the week was spending time with fellow CODAs (Children of Deaf Adults) who, like me, are now serving the Lord in Deaf ministry.The preaching was both challenging and encouraging, and I was thankful for the opportunity to serve by interpreting for Deaf individuals with low vision, leading a congregational song, and presenting a special music arrangement with the Go Team.One of the biggest surprises of the week was running into dear friends from Peru! Elena Quirós and Nancy Burns have known me since I was a baby and have been friends of my parents since their Bible college days. Seeing them again was such a blessing.And of course, I couldn’t leave without taking a photo with Bill Schutt. He has faithfully served the Lord since the days when Bro. Vernon Miller was still ministering. Seeing him was a wonderful reminder of the lasting impact that he and Bro. Vernon had, not only on Deaf ministry, but also on my own family’s story.I thank the Lord for a week of sweet fellowship, privilege of serving, listening to faithful preaching, and the blessing of meeting others who have given their lives to reaching the Deaf with the Gospel._______________________La semana pasada tuve la oportunidad de asistir por primera vez a la Deaf Baptist Fellowship of America (DBFA). Fue una experiencia especialmente significativa para mí debido a la rica historia y el legado que respaldan esta conferencia. A lo largo de los años, han asistido muchos siervos fieles de Dios que dedicaron sus vidas al ministerio entre los sordos, incluido el hermano Vernon Miller, quien en aquel entonces estaba construyendo el ministerio Efata en Perú; precisamente el ministerio que Dios utilizó para llevar el Evangelio a mi padre.Fue una alegría reencontrarme con rostros conocidos y conocer a muchas personas nuevas. It is a great Monday! We had not planned to go to the Deaf Baptist Fellowship of America (DBFA) in Chicago this year but a couple of weeks ago one of the hosts contacted us to see if the Go Team could come to sing. We have to drive as far as Indianapolis every month as it is, so we coordinated it into one big trip. We started out two weeks ago at a camp meeting in North Carolina; doubled back for the funeral of Vernelle Holmquist in Chattanooga, Tennessee; had an impromptu afternoon fellowship with our missions director and wife; David and Stephanie Peach; squeezed in a Sunday morning detour to Faith Baptist Church in Jefferson City, Tennessee, to hear Zambian missionary Yohannes Geteneh preach; popped in on Jeff Harris near Winchester, Kentucky, Sunday night, slept ELEVEN whole hours at a very nice hotel with only one interruption; and then headed to the city of Chicago for a beautifully hosted DBFA.I was so excited we were going. It has been a long time since I have been able to feel free to fellowship, and we seldom get to see our deaf friends here in the United States. I was praying that the trip would be good for Amanda ,too, and it was. Seeing friends who sign helps draw her out. This week, she asked me if I could see she is getting better. I said I could and she told me. “ I’m doing good." Any time she is doing better, I am doing better. Praise God there is progress and she can see it!The conference was a blessing. Out of my comfort zone, I even ventured out to make new friends. It was a special joy to get to see Nancy Burns, a deaf friend who has been a single missionary in Peru for many years. All week the preaching was targeted with this one question: “What will you do with Jesus?" It is a question we all must answer. I know for me, I need to do more. We scheduled a meeting in Schaumburg, Illinois on Sunday with Mark Coleman and his deaf ministry. Between the conference and Church we had two days to explore Chicago and grab some deep dish pizza. Politics aside, what a beautiful city! A highlight was a stop at Moody Church and the Moody Bible Institute. All in all, it was refreshing and Amanda did great!We are now in Indianapolis for the first of three doctor visits. At each appointment, they see her improved from the previous visit. The journey is long but the trend is steadily upward. I am thankful that God gives times of refreshing along the journey. I don’t know what we would do without our brothers and sisters in Christ. I am amazed over and over at how many people are faithful to pray for us. We feel those prayers. ~ Tricia
Gods timing is perfect.Some dear friends of ours have been praying and working to adopt and as we have gotten to know them over the past four years we have seen their hearts and the way they love others. They prayed with us as we were searching how God would use us in ministry either in pastoring a church or missions. We have prayed with them throughout the adoption process when there were issues and unexpected holdups with the paperwork and shared in praises as the hurdles were overcome. Shamberly showed me a photo tonight as they were on the airplane coming home with their new addition. As believers we are adopted into the kingdom of God through Jesus. His Love and patience endures.Romans 8:15 says, For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.We all have ups and downs, God is in control even in those times of setbacks. We can take comfort in knowing we as believers who have called on his name are adopted into a Loving family and we dont need to fear.Jeremy
The Deaf Baptist Fellowship of America wrapped up yesterday here in Chicago, and today we took some time to visit the Moody Church. They kindly showed us around and gifted us several books on the history of his ministry and the church. It’s inspiring learning about our Christian forefathers and reflecting on the sober responsibility we have in our own ministry.~ Marie
Deaf Baptist Fellowship of America (DBFA) is an annual preachers' and missionaries' fellowship for deaf people. Every year it is held in a different city. This year it was in Chicago. Usually Go Deaf Missions is on a mission in a foreign field during DBFA, but since we're in the US, we took advantage of the opportunity to see old friends and make new ones, and be refreshed by the fellowship of other laborers in deaf ministry. Our team also participated in various ways. The preaching of God's Word centered on the theme, "What will you do with Jesus?" based on Matthew 27:22. Jeremy and I just finished out a long, but really good week at B.I.O. (Baptist International Outreach) where Faith Baptist Church hosted us and several other missionaries for Enrichment Week. It is a week where those working in Missions come together for Biblical and practical training, fellowship, and encouragement. Each day was full of so much information - We nearly filled our entire notebooks with notes. We had the opportunity to meet new people serving all over the world and better get to know some we had previously met. We came away uplifted and feeling a little more prepared than we were before. It is such a blessing to have men and women who have walked this road before us come together, just as Jesus did in training the disciples, and as the disciples continued on throughout their own lives, to help prepare those of us who are just starting out on this path of ministry. We are blessed to have so many to learn from - John & Tricia and the rest of the Go Deaf team, the team working together at the mission board, other missionaries, and pastors/servants of the Lord who work with and support missionaries to accomplish the commission God has charged every Believer with. This week, it was so evident that we all truly are part of the body of Christ, all working and serving in our own capacities for the Lord. Please pray for us as we travel to Oklahoma and begin deputation.~ Shamberly
One of the sweetest parts of the ministry we do is talking with young children and teenagers who are excited to learn sign language. When we visit camp meetings, there are often several children who ask us how to sign simple things. It’s a joy to be able to introduce them to our beautiful language, and to plant that seed!~ Marie
I have loved the song "Handful of Weeds" since the first time I heard it. It brought back so many memories of running through the high grass of summer and picking bouquets of Black-eyed Susan's and daisies. My mom has been gone sixteen years this month, and her birthday would have been earlier this week. Seeing these flowers on a quick roadside stop brought a little joy to my day. Maybe they will brighten yours, too.
We are running a day late and a dollar short! In about an hour we should arrive at a camp meeting in North Carolina. We will be an hour late due to leaving home later than we planned and getting an unsolicited free hour to sit on the highway in South Carolina behind an accident. To travel or not to travel is a difficult question. With all my heart, I want to travel with our team and do ministry for the Lord, and with all my heart I want to give Amanda the very best of care, also for the Lord.It's hard. The decision is hard. The travel is hard. I guess I have always loved travel but packing is a chore. It is more of a chore trying to keep up with Amanda's routines and her need for me to be close much of the time. We were supposed to leave yesterday, but I didn't feel well and I couldn't get it together, so we delayed a day. A whole day! What I used to be able to do with a whole extra day was amazing! I could clean my house top to bottom and manage about ten loads of laundry, and provide all the meals in between, but not today. Today, I overslept; I worked as fast as I could to finish up housework; and finish packing all the things I forgot to pack yesterday. And, it wasn't just me; John, David, and Timothy were working, too. Still, I left some things undone and my house way less tidy than I like. At least, I think we actually packed everything we needed and then some. I hate days like this. I am tired, crabby, and don't feel that great either. It feels like failure. It is important to remember God makes the hard days for His glory, too.Worries creep in so easily. Amanda can't be anywhere that is musty, moldy, or full of chemicals. There are a lot of musty churches, hotels, and Air BnB's, and why, oh why, is there a sudden revival of Pine Sol? Even beautifully scented air freshener can bring on seizures, just like mold and harsh chemicals can. So why travel? From a human standpoint, it is not good for Amanda to be isolated. Her doctors think she needs to do things that were part of her normal life before. She needs to see people, especially the smiley ones. On a spiritual level she needs to be in church, around God's people. It is a blessing, even when she can't always respond, to hear people remind her they love her and are praying for her. She needs the preaching, too, and while I am interpreting, I sometimes can see her respond to a truth from God's Word. To some extent, we have to take her to Indianapolis anyway. Taking the trip in a single day is more than she and I can manage, even with the whole team pitching in to help. A stop is inevitable, so we try to take in a meeting or two on the way, as long as we are putting the miles on the car anyway. We have already racked up almost 45,000 on the new van. Ultimately, God still called us to be missionaries, and Amanda being sick does not negate that call. It is tough sometimes, but God is still faithful. He loves us and he still meets our needs. ~Tricia
One of my favorite bible verses is Galatians 6:9 "And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not."A few days ago, we started driving to BIO in Tennessee for enrichment week. Along the way, we stopped to visit my aunt and uncle. While we visited, two older gentlemen came into the restaurant and our daughter Laurelai pointed out they were signing. After dinner I went over and introduced myself. Told them we are joining Go Deaf as missionaries I learned they met that morning and went golfing. One went to church in the next town over. While the other was from Macon, Ga. A few months ago I would have not been able to communicate but learning a little at a time and over time, I am able to do a little more each day than the day before. God is so amazing, day in and day out, He gives us opportunities to learn and grow. Hebrews 12:1, "Let us run with patience the race that is set before us."Jeremy

This week Anna and I have been interpreting for VBS (Vacation Bible School) at her home church. I was nervous as I don’t have much experience interpreting in ASL yet, but had a great time with the kids and they had a blast! The church did a great job decorating for their outer space theme. We have been busy today, also preparing decorations and games, for the upcoming DSL camp. Please pray for the camp to be successful, and to bring glory to Him.~ Marie

Attention all Super Mario fans! The Go team is building a stage set for deaf camp in July. Our theme verse is Romans 1:16: "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ for it is the power of God.... Anna and I have had a blessed couple of weeks in Kentucky, North Carolina, and South Carolina before arriving back in Florida today.Last weekend, we visited my friends Robert and Lisa Gunter in North Carolina, and they gave me the opportunity to share about our ministry with their Deaf ministry. They served as missionaries to the Deaf in Australia for many years, and it was during my time in that ministry that I received assurance of my salvation.This week, we have been at a church planters’ meeting. We were warmly welcomed and received valuable counsel from experienced missionaries, as well as hearing many of their stories from the field and the lessons they have learned. I wrote copious notes, and plan to review them soon to help me retain the insights shared with us.In amongst our meetings and travel, Anna and I have also worked on making some videos for her ASL class, and I’ve enjoyed the blessing of being involved in the process!Thank you for your continued prayers and support for our team. One of the difficulties inherent to the ministry of Go Deaf Missions and our almost constant travel is keeping up with regular household chores. I don't mean the regular cleaning, we live in a constant state of it, but rather the chores of cleaning out cabinets, closets and drawers and the abyss we call the garage. I also mean the minor repairs that seem to present themselves every chance they can get on a BOGO special where for every single fixed item you get two new broken ones for free. On top of all these are the gardens that grow weeds better than anything we ever planted. Even when we did not travel, the large projects of painting and renovating took giant bites of time and energy, but now with our frequent out of town or country a great many have hung in limbo too long. They are usually the first to greet me any time we arrive and they peek out through the blinds every time they see us leaving, rejoicing they have gone unchecked for yet another round. This month we pulled a fast one and stayed home instead of making the trek to Indianapolis, and for the first time in a long, long time, Amanda does not need me glued to her hip to get through the day. Little by little, we have been knocking out some of the should-have-been-annual house hold upkeep items. It feels good climbing into bed tonight with a number of dreaded projects finished, even though there are many more to come. I thank the Lord for a place to call home and for Amanda's continued progress. It is a blessing! ~Tricia
“The same God who waters the flowers has not forgotten about you.”I read this phrase this morning and spent some time meditating on God’s faithful provision.For several months much of Florida has been in a drought, but over the last couple of weeks it has started raining again. Everyone is so grateful for the showers, yet behind every drop is the sovereign hand of God. The same God who sends rain upon the face of the earth is the same God who sustains and provides for all of His children.This truth was especially dear to me this week. The Lord placed it upon the heart of another pastor and his congregation to take me on for support. I am humbled and grateful for the way He continues to provide for the work He has called me to do.If He has not forgotten the flowers of the field, neither has He forgotten you.«El mismo Dios que riega las flores no se ha olvidado de ti».Leí esta frase esta mañana y dediqué un tiempo a meditar sobre la fiel provisión de Dios.Durante varios meses, gran parte de Florida ha estado sufriendo una sequía; sin embargo, en las últimas par semanas ha comenzado a llover de nuevo. Today I spent the day visiting my mother and step father. When I come to Florida there are usually a few things they need my help with or projects. One of the projects we worked on today was moving the fish into a new fish pond. My oldest daughter helped as we leveled the new pond, filled it with water, cleaned the stones and moved the fish to their new home.It was a challenge as we tried to catch 13 fish in a murky pond. Every time you had one in the net, it would escape and swim away, darting deaper into the water. They were use to the environment. They were comfortable in that little pond. We wanted to put them in a larger pond with clean water and new rocks, where they could thrive and grow, but they fought to stay in that old murky pond water. Eventually we got them all moved, along with a few tadpoles. We watched them for a while as they checked out the new environment and look forward to seeing how they do.God has plans for us. He wants us to thrive, but many times we want to stay in our comfort zone - because we are used to it - even if it prevents us from growing.Isaiah 55:8-9 (KJV) For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.Remember what seems difficult, uncomfortable, or confusing to us may be exactly what God knows is best for us to thrive.~ Jeremy
Anna and I have had a blessed time at Victory Baptist Church’s camp meeting, in Owenton, Kentucky. When I first arrived in the US last year, this was the first event I attended, and it was a lovely opportunity to reflect on how God has blessed this last year. We were blessed by the preaching, music, fellowship, hospitality, friendship and love shown to us as missionaries. I was given an opportunity to share my testimony, and appreciated the support shown to me and the encouragement along the way with my continuing deputation.~ Marie

You've heard of "a stick in the mud," but yesterday I was a stuck in the mud! Yesterday Marie and I drove to Kentucky for a camp meeting. It was raining last week, making the parking area in the grass very muddy, but I didn't know that until it was too late. I don't know if it counts as "going mudding" when it was unintentional, but I feel like I should be allowed to say that I went mudding for the first time, considering all the mud I collected. I greatly appreciate the men at Victory Independent Baptist Church who pushed us out of the mud and gave us a ride down the hill in an off-roading vehicle to keep us from getting ourselves muddy, too.Do not worry, the mud problem was solved by gravel spread around this morning. It reminds me of a verse: Psalm 40:2 KJV — He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. ~ Anna
What a wonderful few weeks it has been in Germany! We have been so blessed and encouraged during our time here as we have gotten to visit with precious friends, mentors, and prayer warriors who have walked along this journey toward missions with us the past few years. We had some sickness sprinkled into the trip, unfortunately, but over all, God showed up, as only He does, and there really aren't words for how good He is and how He has blessed us. We are on our way back to the states now. We started our journey Thursday, but due to some unforseen delays, layovers, etc., we have found ourselves grounded in the U.K. for a short time. Despite the delays, we welcomed the rest and showers after the lengthy trip (14 hrs in the airport + another 4-5 hours delayed in another.) Miah has handled it all wonderfully which has been a tremendous answer to prayer, as such long travel and significant change of routine can be quite hard on little ones. We are going to miss Germany and our precious friends/family there, but we are looking forward to getting to spend a little time with our stateside family before heading to Tennessee for missions training a little later in June. We are coming away from this time feeling so incredibly encouraged and just amazed at God and how He works in our lives. He truly does work ALL things together for good, and as I sit here this morning, I am just in awe of how He has called us - all of us - to His purpose. ~ Shamberly
It was sure fun to capture these shots today! We had a little excursion to Silver Springs State Park and to a nearby retreat center where the Go Team will be helping at deaf camp this summer. Amanda loved this hulled out tree that she could squeeze herself into. I loved all the smiles and laughter that came with it.!~Tricia
Yesterday was my one year anniversary in the States, and I have been reflecting on that this past week. Before I left Australia, I was aware of many of the significant changes I would be experiencing, and it was scary, and so hard to leave my family and close friends behind. God has taken me on a journey of growing faith and trust in Him, an increasing awareness of His love, care, and comfort for me, and patience as I learn to rest in His grace each day. I am so thankful for His help as I have stepped out of my comfort zone in many ways in serving Him, and for the love and care shown to me by many church folk here in the US. It is a blessing to have the peace of knowing I am in His will - even on the far side of the world.~ Marie
.Adopted Into LoveToday, eleven years ago, in China, David was adopted into our family. It was a moment that changed everything—not just for him, but for us. Adoption is more than paperwork or travel; it is the intentional choosing of a child, bringing them into a family, giving them a name, a place, and a future.As I reflect on that day, I’m reminded of a deeper truth in my own life.When I received Jesus as my Savior, I was adopted into God’s family.The Bible says in Ephesians 1:5 (KJV):“Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will.”Just as David did nothing to earn his place in our family, I did nothing to earn my place in God’s. It was His love that initiated it. His grace that made it possible.Adoption means belonging.David didn’t have to wonder if he was part of our family after that day—he was ours. In the same way, I don’t have to question whether I belong to God. Through Christ, I am His. Fully. Permanently. Lovingly.Adoption also means identity.David received our name and became part of our story. And in Christ, I received a new identity—not defined by my past, but by God’s love and purpose for me.And adoption means security.Just as we would never abandon David, God promises never to leave or forsake His children. His commitment is perfect, unbreakable, and eternal.Today, as I remember David’s adoption, I celebrate more than a family milestone—I celebrate the day God made me His own.Reflection:Have you embraced what it truly means to be adopted into God’s family—not just forgiven, but chosen, loved, and secure?Prayer:Father, thank You for choosing me and adopting me into Your family through Jesus. These many months on end taking care of Amanda have not lacked at all in difficulty. Many times I have cried out to the Lord in fear and confusion, and many times when I should have I either didn't know what to say, or I fell asleep trying to get it said. There are late nights, early mornings and lots of interruptions in between. All day, every day, I guess and second guess every choice from what to eat, to what to wear, to what to give her to help her recover. Too often, I forget important little details and feel guilty for the error. A hundred thousand doctors would probably scoff at our choice to switch to holistic medicine, and personally, I have had my doubts sometimes, too. Although this has been a long, hard journey, I promised the Lord I would use it to praise him. Even in the the greatest of trials, God is present. When I can't see his purpose, He is still present. When I can't hear his voice, He is still ever present. Last week, a pastor gave us an update on a young lady who last year was having symptoms similar to Amanda's. Earlier this week, she slipped into a coma. My heart breaks for this girl and her family, but at the same time how can I not rejoice to see how God has worked Amanda's body to bring her healing?Today we swam in our little backyard pool, and Amanda had a blast. She jumped, and laughed, and swam. A year ago, she didn't have enough energy to lift a spoon to her mouth. We are not all the way there yet, but slowly but surely she is getting better. I am so thankful God has preserved Amanda's life and health. I love the closeness of taking care of her but want so much for her to be well. Knowing about the other girl showed me how much God has done for us. I bless His name! - Tricia
Today, the Ordination Council will meet and question/interview Jeremy. Pastors and Missionaries have come from around Germany, Belgium, and Tennessee to be a part of the council and we are thankful and honored for these men to show up, come alongside, and helping, guiding, supporting, and encouraging us on the journey. The Lord has blessed us immensely. We are not worthy of the love, patience, and grace He has given us.Jeremy has been studying and preparing for this. Our prayer is that God will clear his mind of any distractions, calm his nerves, give him wisdom and clarity of thought, and the peace that only comes from Christ. I am humbled as I look around and see how God has worked in my husband, myself, and our family over the years, and I am amazed at how He works the pieces of our lives, good and bad, together to bring us to the places He would have us be. Even then, He doesn't stop working. He just continues placing the puzzle pieces together, guiding us to opportunities to serve and grow both in faith and in relationship with Him. We have so much to learn still, but I am comforted to know He is with us every step of the way. ~ Shamberly

I have been reading through Exodus recently, and I am so thankful for God’s patience with His people! It reminds me of a video I’ve seen where a shepherd pulls his sheep out of a deep ditch, only for the sheep to take a few more bounds and promptly fall into the same ditch. I’m thankful for God’s leading every day, and for His loving kindness, mercy and care, and for His gentle conviction that keeps us in His way, where we can continually experience true peace.~ Marie
Last week, as we were driving down the highway, I noticed a sign that read “Kentucky Down Under,” with the words below it, “Pet Australian Animals.” I pointed it out to Tricia, and she suggested we stop, thinking Amanda might enjoy it.When we arrived, we discovered they had five kookaburras. Seeing them brought back memories of how the Lord used those same birds to encourage Amanda during her difficult time in Australia in 2024.It was a sweet reminder that the Lord knows how to bring comfort at just the right moment. I thank Him for gently reminding Amanda of His care and faithfulness.~ John
I keep these miniature figures in the bag I use to carry Amanda's supplements, the ones I don't refrigerate. Total strangers in various places have noticed Amanda is sick and offered them to cheer her, with a promise to pray. I keep them in her bag as a reminder that because of missions we have friends and strangers alike around the globe who pray regularly for her full recovery, for David's eyes, and for the strength and success of our team. I see these little reminders at least once a day. They remind me that God is so good to give us thousands of friends who love us. We are truly blessed! ~Tricia
Six years ago today, I made the greatest decision I could ever make: I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour.Growing up as a missionary child, my dad would often take our family soul winning and on visitation. From a very early age I had memorized the plan of salvation, and at the age of six, after my dad asked me on the spot if I wanted to be saved, I made a profession of faith without truly understanding my sinful condition or feeling conviction concerning my need of a Saviour.As I grew older, the difficulties my family faced on the mission field, along with the cares of this world, slowly led my heart away from the Lord. Then, at the age of fourteen, the Lord quite literally shook my life. I began having seizures and was later diagnosed with epilepsy. That disease shattered the selfish plans I had been building for my future, and instead caused me to become increasingly dependent on God and His sovereign care.As I began drawing closer to the Lord, He worked in my heart and brought the right people into my life. At the age of sixteen, the Lord called me to the ministry, and I became involved in every area of service I could at my local church. A year later, COVID struck, and suddenly preacher after preacher emphasized the importance of making certain of one’s salvation.At one point I was even asked to share my testimony of salvation as a leader in the youth ministry, yet all I could give was a vague story. With every sermon, conviction grew stronger in my heart.Then, on the afternoon of May 12, 2020, I finally told my dad that I was not sure I was truly saved.I was reminded that salvation is not measured by our faithfulness, nor by how much we do in ministry. A person may help with the sound system, serve as a youth leader, direct worship, teach Sunday school, and still be lost and on their way to Hell. Salvation comes only through placing one’s faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross.And so, that same afternoon, I placed my trust in Jesus Christ and accepted Him as my Lord and Saviour.Ever since then, the Lord has been so good to me, and I can only stand in gratitude that “God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8Hoy, hace seis años, tomé la decisión más importante que jamás podría haber tomado: acepté a Jesucristo como mi Señor y Salvador.Al crecer como hijo de misioneros, mi padre a menudo llevaba a nuestra familia a ganar almas y a realizar visitas pastorales. Being back in Germany this past week has been so nice. We have been able to visit and worship with our church family here at Heritage Baptist in Mehlingen, Germany after a long year and a half in the States. Thankfully, we didn't have much jet lag and even baby Miah's internal clock adjusted fairly quickly to being here.Being back here at Heritage is really special to us as this is where God called us to Missions. Our church family here prayed with and for us, our friend and Pastor, Dr. John Hallman and his wife, Denise, have mentored us, and we have such a special place in our hearts for this church and these people. We are so blessed and thankful they voted to be our sending church!Shamberly was the guest speaker at a Ladies Tea at the church today. She spoke on 2 Kings 4:1-7 with a focus on pouring from an empty cup, and was able to tie in the Gospel message to share with those in attendance. The ladies said it was a wonderful day with good fellowship, and there were a couple in attendance who had not heard the Gospel before, so please pray that seeds were planted and that God will draw them to Him.While the ladies had their event, Dr. Hallman took his son and I to a restaurant high on a mountain at a local castle where you could watch airplanes landing in the town below. As we sat there taking in the view, I thought about Isaiah 40:31 "But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."This coming week, I will be in deep preparation, studying both to preach this coming Wednesday (and next,) as well as for my ordination. The ordination interviews will take place next Saturday, followed by the ordination and commissioning service(s) next Sunday. Please pray for me as I study the Word that God would help me to have peace, clarity, wisdom, and focus.God is so good and I know He will carry me - us - through. When I look back at all the times he has been faithful to carry me, I can't help but want to share Him with others. As several of you know, our hearts are on loving and helping others. Praise the Lord, it was all good news at Amanda’s doctor appointment today! We reviewed some labs and there are improvements across the board. We still have a number of things to work on, especially liver function, but it was great to see every weak area moving closer to normal. They see a number of issues caused by chemicals and plastics in products we use, so we will be making some adjustments to our shopping list. I am very excited to see her diet restrictions loosening up; now, we can add a wider variety of nutrition to her meal plan. Above all her digestive system has improved greatly which makes her feel much better than she did. She has had an amazing day today and has not stopped talking for hours. We are thankful to see a few peeks at the “old" Amanda and hope to have her permanently back soon, Lord willing! For now, I am so thankful for the great day we had today! God is answering prayer!
Once again we are making the trek to Indianapolis. We are barreling down the highway with the sun roof open, the front windows down and the warm breeze blowing spring through our beautiful red van! We are lovin' it! Tennessee is gorgeous this time of year and I can't wait to see Kentucky!I am pretty excited about some improvements we are seeing this week in Amanda's physical health and cognitive clarity in conversation. I think a recent addition of cobalt to her regimen of supplements has boosted her nervous system considerably. I am eager for the doctor to see it first hand. Usually, travel wipes Amanda out, but so far this trip, including two churches on Sunday, has been good. My prayer is that tomorrow. She will be at her best for her appointment. Last month, our friend Susan in Jacksonville, Illinois, suggested we try a rebounding trampoline to help Amanda form stronger neurological pathways. She had seen therapists use it successfully for brain injury. We ordered and assembled the trampoline in our living room last week, and it is amazing how quickly it affected Amanda's coordination and stamina. We have worked out a little exercise routine. Not only does it help her, but she loves it. It's a win! Nothing encourages our hearts more than to hear people are praying. At some of the Deaf Expo events, total strangers have told John they follow our page and are praying for Amanda (and her mom, too 😀).The absolute best is like last night, when a pastor asks his church to gather around and pray over Amanda and our family. We know that ultimately, any healing comes from our great God, who has healing in his wings.We could never have survived this fiery trial without the goodness of the family of God. Not a day goes by that we don't hear someone is praying. We have never felt so loved!~ Tricia
Today, the Go Deaf Missions team partnered with the Deaf Baptist Church of Smyrna at the Deaf Nation Expo in Atlanta. Hundreds of tracts were distributed, and one person came to salvation. Several people also shared that they are praying for Amanda. We thank the Lord for a blessed and fruitful day~John
Just like that, our time in the Army has come to a close. I signed my DD-214 (final paperwork), received an award, turned in my office keys, and with a simple handshake and a “thank you for your service.” we loaded up the car and headed to Florida to spend time with family.Now, Shamberly and I are stepping into a new chapter. Next week, we’ll be with our sending church for our ordination, and we’re truly grateful for what the Lord is doing. There’s a growing sense of anticipation as we prepare to serve alongside the Go Deaf ministry and pour into the lives of others.It’s something you don’t fully understand until you experience it, when God truly takes hold of your life, everything changes. Choosing to make yourself available to Him reshapes your direction, your purpose, and your priorities. When He is not just Savior but LORD, there’s a humility that settles in you. You begin to realize it’s no longer about your plans, but His. Learning to surrender control and rely fully on faith in Christ alone is not always easy, but it is always worth it.We will soon begin deputation, visiting churches and raising support. At first, the idea felt overwhelming, but the more I read and study God’s word, the more I’m reminded that the Lord is faithful to provide and meet the needs of His people, time and time again.Whatever situation you're in today give it to God. Give him praise in all things.“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. I am laying out Amanda's supplements for the day. Some of these she takes once, some twice, and some three times. One, she takes every other day. Some are one drop; some are two; some are ten; some are twenty. One is a capful; some are a scoopful; another is a packet; and one is a chewable. Some go in a little water or juice; some go in eight ounces of water; some go in sixteen ounces of water. Every time we go to Indianapolis they test to see which supplements can be eliminated and which new ones might be useful to introduce. All of Amanda's days, and therefore mine, begin with this regimen. When we get all done with this, I think I will see if I can clep the exam for biochemistry.(Twelve pill bottles not included)~Tricia

One of my favorite passages of Scripture is Philippians 2:1-5, "If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than themselves.Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus..."It reminds me of where to focus - on the needs of others, on serving others, on helping others. When we show up for others, putting them before ourselves, we are following Christ's example and loving others well in His name. When God called us into Missions, we knew He was calling us to be helpers, supporting other missionaries and hopefully making it easier for them to do what God has called them to do. I love that years before we had any idea He was going to put missions on our hearts, that He gave me this verse to hold on to as a life verse. Just as His Word tells us, He knows the plans He has for us long before we ever do. It is amazing seeing how He works things together in our lives, not only in the here and now, but past, present and future, coming together to bring about the good He has planned and His glory. I pray that He will grant me wisdom to love others and honor Him well as we continue to move forward. ♡~ Shamberly
In less than a month, it will have been a year since I left my home in Melbourne, Australia, and moved to Florida, to serve with Go Deaf Missions full-time. It’s been a big year! Looking back I can see how God has been with me and has blessed this time of transition and growing trust in Him. ~ Marie
"But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:19Recently someone wrote about the condition of my car. It has long been standing on its last leg, since maybe a month or two before our Deaflympics trip to Tokyo. My mechanic made a list of ten or twelve things it needed, some major, some minor. He said it would still be safe for my trip to Tennessee and back, so I took it. I took it to another mechanic for a second opinion, who said it wasn't worth the money it would cost to fix. I kept driving it, waiting, praying, and saving my money. I had tried to fix the most important parts, but I ran out of time before Japan. Life is always busy, full of responsibilities. There is never a convenient time for an inconvenience like car repairs or car shopping. Returning from Japan and Korea, I kept driving it, trying to figure out what to do and when, praying it wouldn't break down. Some of you might say I was crazy, some might say I was trusting God, some might say I was dangerously naive. You are right. Last Saturday was David's birthday celebration, so Tricia, Marie, and I went out early in my car to do last-minute preparation. As soon as we started up the car, Tricia knew by the feel and the sound that it was in bad shape. She expressed that it was dangerous and there was probably something wrong with the tie rods. The mechanic had told me it needed tie rods. I had been making wide, slow turns for a couple of months, hoping to reduce stress on them. "You shouldn't be driving this anywhere," Tricia said. "Marie has meetings on Sunday. I have to go. God has kept cars miraculously running that were in far worse shape than mine."Sunday afternoon while we were an hour from home, I told my mom all about my car situation, and got her worried about us driving home on the highway. "So you need to buy a car tomorrow," Mom said. She was right, but car shopping should have started weeks ago. Now I would have no way to take Marie to meetings. We called the Olsons and they were free to go car shopping Monday afternoon. That night, I watched a powerful testimony of a man who saw God miraculously meet his needs through faithful prayers. Then I knelt beside my bed to ask God for what I needed: the right car, at the right price, at the right time. I asked for a few specifics, too: two remote keys, the right number of fabric seats, a recent year; and I wanted to pay in cash, no loan. I prayed until I had peace with whatever God would allow me to have, and went to sleep. Mom and I went shopping with the whole Go Team. The salesman showed us two vehicles that fit my requirements. Same make and model, three years apart with a few minor differing features. I test drove one. It was in excellent condition. It felt good. It drove smoothly. It had two remote keys, five fabric seats. I could afford it without a loan, though my mom graciously offered me a loan if I had need. The reviews were good, the stats were positive, the problems reported were minimal. We checked with some people who know cars. Everyone approved. In just one day of looking at one car, I bought a car. A 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe. Everyone who has supported me in prayer or finances has played a part in this. Thank you!Praise the Lord with me!~ Anna
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”Romans 8:28 KJVLast week, while I stayed in Delphi, Indiana, I met a new friend, a fellow missionary, who kindly drove me back and forth to the missions conference we were guests of that weekend. While sharing personal burdens with each other, he reminded me of this verse, which I have heard countless times and have even used to encourage others. Yet in this instance, while it did comfort me amidst my circumstances, it also sparked a curiosity to dig into the treasures this verse contains.Who is “we”? If we were to rely solely on this verse for context, one might assume that “we” refers to those who love God. But does that mean only those who have reached the full capacity of loving God are included in this promise? Is this promise directly tied to our own actions and ability to perform our love toward God? Once we read the whole chapter, we understand that the answer to those questions is no.The chapter begins with this declaration: “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus,” and it goes on to explain how we, the “sons of God” and the “children of God,” are freed from the law of sin and are called to walk after the Spirit. We are told that we have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear, but the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. This speaks of a close and personal relationship, as that of a child with a loving father.That is it; this is who “we” are. Not an elite group who have attained some higher ability to love God, but those who are in Christ. As 1 John 4:19 says, “We love him, because he first loved us.” It is us, all who have been redeemed by the finished work of Christ on the cross. We who are saved in Christ Jesus are the ones called according to his purpose.Now, what are the “things” of which this verse speaks? Just a few verses earlier, in verse 18, we read: “For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” The passage clearly brings our attention to suffering, to trials, and to the afflictions and burdens of this present life. Paul explains in Philippians 3:10 that, as Christians, we not only come to know the power of His resurrection, but, oh how sweet it is to know that we may also partake in the fellowship of His sufferings. These sufferings are certainly not pleasant; yet any and all affliction in which we may find ourselves cannot, in any way, be compared to the heavenly hope we have in Christ.Nevertheless, we are still here. While we look forward to the glory that shall be revealed, we are also given this present assurance: that the events of our lives, however difficult they may seem, are not without purpose; they are certainly included in the “all things.” God, in His sovereignty, is working through them for our good.Yet, the promise is not limited to suffering alone; the verse says “all things”, which means that the trials we endure, the disappointments we face, the doors that close, and even the blessings we receive are all under the hand of a sovereign God who is working through every circumstance for our good. Whether through chastisement from a loving Father, the trying of our faith that we may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing, or the undeserved blessings from our merciful Lord, God is at work.I was meditating upon this thought this morning. Even now, I don’t need to look far back to see the blessings the Lord has brought through this season. I have been given more opportunities to preach, and just this past Sunday, two churches took me on for support.Dear friend, I hope this serves as a reminder to you: whatever you may be facing, wherever you may be, we know that all things work together for good.~Timothy
I know God makes no mistakes and that he is in control. He does not need either my permission, nor my understanding for Him to be right. He is God and he is always right. Still, sometimes I scratch my head to understand, "Why?"Somehow, when Amanda has clarity and the ability to communicate clear thoughts and feelings, it almost always comes late at night, after a long day, just as I am ready to go to sleep. Why? This is the case tonight. It is after midnight, and for the last hour she has been telling me everything she can think of saying. I want to know all that she wants to share, but why, oh why is it at midnight? Sometimes I think her internal clock is still set to Australian time. I am so very thankful for every sign of recovery. Every forward step is a gift from God he didn't have to give us but tonight I am putting in an official request for more daytime gifts! ~Tricia
What a week! This week has flown by. Shamberly and Miah are recovering from sickness. I have started the process of clearing from the military. We are excited about the upcoming transition to full-time ministry.As I prepare for my military career to come to an end, I can't help but think of our lives for the past 2+ decades. Between multiple deployments, training, and temporary duty missions, I have spent a lot of time away from my family over the years. Lately, I've been thinking about all the time I missed.We all miss opportunities as we go through our day to day lives. Big ones; small ones. There were times I would feel guilty about the things I missed. Then, I think about the spiritual opportunities I’ve missed or maybe even overlooked throughout my life. The times I should have shared the gospel, but didn’t for one reason or another or the seasons when I my focus wasn’t where it should have been and I didn’t recognize the opportunities God was putting right in front of me… I am so thankful for God’s grace and that despite the opportunities I missed, He never stops providing opportunities to share the Gospel.Today, I read “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, ‘I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.’” Philippians 3:13–14 (KJV)God doesnt want us to stress about or linger on the past – nor does He want us to worry about tomorrow. Instead, He wants us to be mindful and committed to the opportunities He is putting before is right now, today. Learning from the past – look for the opportunities, learn to recognize them, but don’t miss today’s opportunities because you are so focused on what you missed yesterday. Just like I cannot go back and make up the time I missed with my family over the years, none of us can change the past – but we can decide how it shapes our present and future by the actions we choose to take today.“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;” — Colossians 3:23 (KJV)-Jeremy
Happy Birthday, David!!!We didn’t quite know what we were getting ourselves into when we flew to China 11 years ago to pick up David. Even then we were convinced he was the cutest kid China ever had, but after nearly 40 years working with the deaf, he is the smartest deaf kid I have ever known! He keeps us on our toes. We can’t wait to see what God is going to do with his life! Today he is celebrating his eighteenth birthday! Wish him a happy birthday and share something you appreciate about him.~Tricia
Last weekend, Anna and I had the blessing of attending the Deaf Rally at Victory Deaf Baptist Church in South Carolina. I was especially grateful for the opportunity to share a brief testimony in ASL. It was a reminder that God is pleased to use both our weaknesses and our willingness to bring glory to Himself. Please pray for me as I continue to learn and gain more fluency.~ Marie
